Exclusive Interview with Tara Wilson Aesthetician – of MakeUp Artistry
How it all started
My love for cosmetics and the management of it all started when I was in grade 6 when I was known for hairstyling. Everyday after school and all weekend long I was booked with appointments. At first I was not charging my clients but then when it became overwhelming and time consuming I charged a reasonable price for my services.
During high school was when I experimented with makeup. I had taken a Cosmetology course that really opened my eyes on the industry and also because I had a grade A average in the course with led me to an internship in a Barbershop/ Hair Salon. I noticed that while being an intern that I didn t really enjoy styling hair as much as I thought I would. It was the drive to express my creativity even more. Enhancing one s beauty to the fullest that led me to Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology in the Cosmetic Techniques and Management Program.
This program taught me Makeup applications Product Knowledge Retail Management Skin care Marketing and private labelling and how to become the most successful person I can be in the Cosmetic Industry. I loved the fact that my teachers are all presently active in the industry and highly experienced. In order to graduate from the program students have to complete 100 hours of work placement I had been lucky to have gained my hours during the first semester as an intern at Auraline Beauty Private Label Cosmetics which immediately became a full time position. Being associated with this company as their Account Executive has put me ahead of my classmates by far because of what I was taught that is not covered in the curriculum and the experience I have gained.
Everything I learned in school so far I practise on a regular basis at Auraline. Everyday I wake up and appreciate my position in the industry and work towards gaining more experience I love my job and what I do so much and could only wish that I can spend an eternity enhancing ones beauty. I strongly believe that applying for Seneca College was the best dec
